Default Oil consumption during break in

I picked up my new 2013 Road King Classic last Sunday. I have a little over 500 miles on it, and the dip stick shows to add 1 qt. I added oil and it took about 3/4 of a quart.

I did check the oil after the first day or so that I had the bike, and I didn't pay close attention but it looked like it might have been down 1/2 qt. I'm not sure of course if it would have registered totally full when I picked it up or not.

I broke in the bike as I have done with every Harley and was done correctly.

Is this a cause for concern or no?

Btw, ths past week has been in the upper 90's when riding. Can excessive heat combined with how hot these bikes run normally contribute.

Thanks,
Ken

On my 2013 SG with 500 miles it is showing half way between the cold and hot marks when it is hot (warmed up or after riding) and I don't worry about it, any lower on mine I would add a little fresh oil just to keep it up.

Sounds like you might want to add a little just to bring the level up to be on the safe side,

Did you check your oil level when you first got it and before you rode it?

Mine is at same level as when I got it.

I didn't check the oil when I picked it and so I don't know if it was full. It may or may not have been. I would say that at least 1/2 qt is gone regardless.

Shouldn't be consuming oil.
If our clients had that problem with our engines, here, we'd have the phone rattling off the hook...........
