New pipes, running to lean or rich, help?
2002 Sportster 883 Hugger.
ok, so originally the bike ran great, it had SCII Pipes on it, then i changed over to the LAF 1.75 pipes, as seen in the picture.
Now added, I have a strong mechanical know-how for the automotive and hot rod world which helps me alot with the slow transformation i am doing here with my first bike, the one thing i DO NOT have experience with, is the harley carbs on this evo engine. At first i thought it was running a little rich, no popping out of the intake (that ive heard anyway) and just some pops out of the pipe when i let off the throttle. Now, my pipes are getting yellow and blue, up to 4inchs off from where they bolt on to the motor, and i recall this is usually a lean condition... now im worried, perfect would be key but rich is ok till i can figure the carb out, but from experience lean is BAD. Now I tried adjusting the mixture screw underneath the carburetor once i warmed up the engine and set the idle a little low, put it in the best sweet spot i could find... but now it runs poorly.... therefore jets i suppose are in order... all jets or just the main jet? anyone have experience with this? Detailed instructions from people who have really good experience with these carbs would be really appreciated... and a better way to adjust it would be great to (if there is one) I just took what i did with double pumpers and 2bbl's and tried it on the bike.. i could be TOTALLY wrong.. Help?!?
Thanks guys!
