Default Understanding swing arm specs.

Trying to understand this right, starting with an 06 dyna swing arm that requires a 1" bearing, 70T pully, 1 1/8 belt... I got the H-d part numbers, but I come across things with the same specs and measurements, but different part numbers. I find some rear wheels with 1" bearings that only fit spacific dyna(even ones that require 1" axle) why? The spacing of the final drive? Which brings me to the pulley, I find 70T 1 1/8" FD, but not for my model?? My question is, in most cases (not all) as long as the required measurements are met to fit your frame/ swing, why does Harley have so many different part numbers for things that have the same specs?

I have an '04 swingarm and '02 Deuce rear wheel with 1" bearings in my '90 Glide, with a 1 1/8" belt (my bike had a 1 1/2" as stock). With a little imagination there are a great many combinations of parts that can work!

Different part numbers usually relate to different style parts, which are often different across any model range. Simply look at the current H-D website to see variations. Many of those parts can be swapped with no mods whatsoever, others, like my Deuce wheel, required a simple mod to take 1" (instead of stock 3/4") bearings.

The FD pulley you mention may simply be different in appearance. Why does H-D make so many parts? To appease fickle customers! If you have any specific queries we can help more precisely.
