Default Aftermarket pads

While riding last week the rear rotor on my Slim got super hot, so hot that it turned gold. I let it cool down and checked it at .013" out of true, spec is .008"
This seemed like a good time to install black rotors so I ordered new rotors. Through a bit of research I decided to go with EBC track day pads, they came in today so I removed the old pads. While removimg the rear pads I found this behind the inboard pad.

Probably why my rotor overheated and warped. This part does not show in the service manual so I called the dealer. Seems it is included in HD pads, was not included with the EBC pads...cannot be bought seperate. The dealer said it is attached to the pad, that is why it does not show in the manual.
To those who have installed aftermarket pads...do you simply install the pads as is?

I just did tires on my road king and noticed no shims behind the brake pads.In the automotive world you normally get shims with your pads.I put a dab of never seize on the caliper pistons where pads make contact. It helps with squeal.Just helps.
