Default do it yourself sportster spring seat ideas

hey guys so ive been woking on how to mount a spring seat to my 2005 xl1200. this is all still a mock up too none of its final! so far ive got the hinge all worked out from a heavy duty hinge with alittle grinding and drilling but im having some trouble with mounting the back of the seat.my plan was to drill and tap the frame and put some studs in there that the springs can rest on, here are some pictures of what im talking about, i made the frame cover from some sheet metal and marked it where the studs would go, i put some washers on the frame to mark where the studs would come up. im open to any other idea that you guys got too!

I think you are on the right track, but you may want to consider making that plate out of thicker metal and attaching your studs to the plate itself. It has been my experience that having a spring Seat and a rear suspension can be problematic. The problem is that the spring rate of the shocks won't match the spring rate of the seat and you can get some weird bouncing. If you want the spring seat look consider making the stud go through the spring and mount to the seat itself. That way you get the look without the bounce.

thay is a good idea! I knew poating on here would get me somewhere! So how would you go about mounting the frame cover the the bike then? I was planning on just running a bolt down on the stud to hold it down but if the stud just goes through the cover and not the frame im not sure of a way to mount it
