Replacing brake fluid on ABS bikes
#1
#2
There is no impact on the ABS module unless air is introduced into the system (either through the flush process, changing a line, etc.). I will assume you know the basic process of bleeding brake fluid. I installed Speedbleeders to make the process easier but they're not absolutely necessary, they just save you opening and closing the bleeder. There is also a vacuum pump system but I have never used it. Slowly and carefully squeeze the grip/pedal to move the fluid through the lines and top up the reservoir as it empties. Do not allow it to empty or you will introduce air into the system. Avoid squeezing/depressing too quickly as you can get a upwell or squirt of fluid (for want of a better term) which could get on your paint. Do not allow brake fluid to get on paint - you will be forever and exceedingly unhappy.
I have done it twice with no issues. Takes me about 1/2 hour not counting preparing the area around the front brake reservoir look like a surgical field.
Some say to do the left front caliper before the right as it is farther from the reservoir.
Make sure you use the correct fluid.
