2001 Sportster Front Brake Master Cylinder
Had a problem w/ the front brakes locking up & was told by my dealer thatI should change out the brake fluid & take a look @ the piston/o-rings, etc. in the front master cyslinder. Replaced the piston/o-rings, etc. w/ a HD rebuild kit but now can't get any fluid to pump out the end of the master cylinder. The 2 small holes in the resevior are not plugged. The brake line down to the front caliper is openand fluid will flow. Anyone got any suggestions?

sportster front brake master cylinder
Hi dfesmire99, I had the same thing happen to my sportster after only 12000 miles on it, I did all that you did and it did not want to bleed out, on a whim I took the brake lever out and used a socket that would rest on the outside of the plunger and was able to depress the cylinder about a quarter inch more that the brake lever does, that seemed to do the trick as after a few depresses the fluid started to flow to the master cylinder in no time and I got it bled pretty quickly, I reinstalled the brake lever for the final bleeding and things went quick from there, the problem seems that the master cylinder had a trapped air pocket that normal lever usage that woud not push out, hope it works for you.
