Yes, and you Might need to remove the nacelle (Tin) trim, depending on how capable you are of getting the 2 7/16 screws out....

Or you can take apart the fork from the bottom...

remove the 36mm cap, unload the spring, remove the 12mm Allen holding the fork slider to the standoff,... you get the picture.....

There is a unique socket that you can purchase that makes it a whole lot easier...

That is the 36mm cap on the top of the fork assy.....

It is under a good amount of spring pressure, but not so much that it can't be done...

are you planning on replacing the fork slider covers with a different fork slider cover or just removing them altogether? could always just get sheet metal scissors and cut off em off!

im the guy that fixes 99% of stuff with pliers and a hammer....

The nut at the top of the forks is not under pressure as the actual fork cap is held by the top triple tree clamp and the nut you remove clamps the fork clamp to the top clamp. You unscrew the top nut, loosen the bolt on the front of the lower clamp, this is after you remove the brake caliper, wheel and fender and slide the fork out. The you can easily change the tins. If you are chroming the lowers, you do not have to remove the entire fork assembly, just the sliders. I can chrome one out in 45 minutes but I have done this many times.

thanks CAPDUNN. I'm just replacing the sliders. for some strange reason the previous owner changed the forks to chrome but never did the slider covers...that just doesn't make any sence to me.
