Default metzler or avon tires?

I just bought some new wheels and want to put new tires on.I was never happy with the dunlop
so looked around. And metzler and avon seem to be very close in opinions.I heard metzler 880
is a great tire but it does not last longtime due to soft compounds. Is avon any better or worse
compared to a metzler. To soft or not? and does anyone know which tire is a wider 140 of the 2
thanks for any info.

Timely post as im pondering the same ? My research indicates the metz to give decent milage (though less than oem) great road manners wet or dry and good grip. The avons are said to be have similer traits but a little softer compound that gives a slight perfomance edge but fewer miles. Im one of those "returning" riders and always used dunlops in the past and I admit i havent tried either yet its just what ive read.

I run Avon Roadrunners on a bagger. About the same as the flops.

I just put Metz on my Scoot. The handling is very Different! Much "quicker" response from the Bike. The Shop guys told me I would get about the same Mileage, but slightly less than the Lops. So far I love 'em, I got about 500 miles on 'em. They don't "track" the dips and ruts like the Lops did and on Uneven pavement they run straight. So far I really do like 'em, we'll see when the mileage figures are In!!

I replaced the OEM Dunlop rear tire on my Heritage at 10,000 miles due to wear and then found a cut on my front Dunlop and replaced it 12,000 miles... I put the Metzler 880s on the bike and like them so far. They seem to corner better, but then again it could be my imagination.

We'll see how they wear.

I've tried a number of differant tires. Metzlers are about the same ride as Dunlops, and about the same wear. Michelin Commander tires were horrible. Poor traction, and poor handeling on irregular pavement. Don't know how they wear because I took them off long before they were worn out.

Avon Roadrunners are the best tires I've used. About the same wear as Dunlops and Metzlers. Handeling and traction are excellent. Very quiet, too. I'll be putting a set on this bike pretty soon.

Hi guys, Metzeler every time! I have M on my RoadKIng Classic and Avons on my Fatboy, both have excellent grip and much better feel than the standard Dunlops, however the Avons previously on the RKC wore very fast. I always travel two up and many times loaded to the limit so a hefty test for any tyre. Soon as the Avons are done the FB will get Metzeler too!
If yo run with loads on Avons check regularly for splits in Avons they seem prone to this!!
