Default What front end do I have

I bought a 1988 FLHTP Evo and the front end had been changed before I bought it. I was told it was a 2001 Fatboy front end. But who knows.
Does anyone know where the part number are located or how to tell for sure?

Fatboys have a single rotor, your bike when new had two. How many does it have today?! A 2001 FB would also have a different style of wheel, AFAIK. Post a photo showing the front wheel, rotor and caliper, so we can see if we can help.

Can't figure out how to post pics. I have 2 rotors. Are there part number on the forks?

Not that I know of. It doesn't sound as if you have FB forks, although they look the same as any other fat Harley forks, except for only one caliper. Harley forks have looked the same since they were introduced around 1948!

You can post photos one of two ways. Go to 'advanced' when writing a new message, scroll down to 'manage attachments' and follow the instructions. Or create an album here in HDF and post a link. Best of luck! It's easy once you've cracked it.

We crossed posts! That is indeed a Fatboy wheel and fender! I've never seen one with twin rotors. I have studied a few photos of FBs and it is possible the stock wheel will take twin rotors. The black sliders suggest whoever did that mod took some care when doing it, as they may be custom painted. The rotors and calipers look like early twincam, which also fits with being 2001.

Ronnies HD website has microfiche for Harleys going back many years. It seems safe to assume the whole forks are also 2001, although the right slider has been added and will be a Touring part. It will be easy to get the part number for all those 2001 parts from Ronnies.

Im planing on putting Progressive mono tube kit in the forks. Not sure which one to order.
1988 or 2001 they have different part numbers and Progressive does not be able to give me a way to tell the difference.
Emailed them and this was their response.
If your front end is from a 2001 fatboy then you will want monotube kit # 31-2502. You will have to verify that you have the same fork tubes and caps from the Fat boy in order to ensure that it will all fit.
Would have been nice if they told me the difference.

I've checked Ronnies HD microfiche and your original fork sliders were #45863-84 and #45864-84. A 2001 touring bike has #46496-00A and #46498-00A. Those calipers won't fit the original sliders, so it seems to me safe to assume you have 2000/1 spec forks. The fork cap on a 2001 FB is #45419-80, which is a 1980 part number!

Your stock forks were air assisted and there was an air system mounted on the fork caps, which are drilled and threaded to take it. If your current forks are 2001 there will be no evidence of that, the caps will be plain.

Hope that helps a bit!

Thanks,
My caps do have holes that are plugged from a air system that was mounted on the fork caps. This maybe a collection of parts. Sliders have 2 caliper, Fatboy wheel, Etc.
I can't find part number on the forks.
Maybe if I can get the diameters of the guts from Progressive. That may be the only way to know for sure.

Some of the parts in both 1988 and 2001 forks are much earlier than both of them! So there really can't be that much difference between them. The fork tubes have different part numbers, but I can't think why. I suspect you're right, you have a cocktail of parts! I don't think you will find part numbers on any of the major parts.

It would be worth phoning Progressive, if you haven't done so. The differences in their products may be very slight and easy to work around. It will be easier to do that in person, rather than trying to do it by email.
