Depending on where you ride and how often should determine how often it should be cleaned.
If it gets wet, it is recommended to dry it out by cloth or hair drier/compressed air and lubed if it is clean to begin with.

Thanks, i knew it would be a K&N style but it looks dry and i didn't want to open the package untill ready to install. Thanks again.
