New foam in an old helmet?

New foam in an old helmet?
Has anyone done this?
I have an old 3/4 helmet I bought about '69 or '70.
The foam is pretty bad in it. Just wondered if anyone has refoamed one and what they used.
Thanks

Perhaps a replacement liner like this might work?

Are you serious? You do realize that the protection the helmet offers is dependent on the density and composition of the foam. I'm at a loss for words. I would be throwing the old helmet in the trash and buying a new one but that's just my preference. Good luck with it.

Donzie, I think I saw a gal online who refoams helmets for a living. (As opposed to that Bitwell liner.)
But I can't vouch for how protective that would be. It would at least be new foam. Honestly though, I think your best bet is just a new helmet. Plenty of great ones out there. Not worth the trouble, or risk, to refurbish a dead one, unless it's for display only.

Strip the old foam, wrap your head in plastic wrap, jam the shell on, and fill the gaps with Great Stuff. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Seriously, the protective qualities of the helmet depend upon the integrity of the shell, and the impact absorbing properties of the foam. Even the if you could properly re-foam it, would the shell be up to the task?
Unless, of course, you are just wearing it as a novelty lid, in which case the protective qualities aren't the focus anyway.

For protection I would imagine the material the shell is made from has also lost most of its value. As a throwback piece I think a helmet from the Summer of Love is pretty darn cool.

All are good points.
My first thought was, wouldn't Biltwell use the same materials to reline a helmet as what they use in their helmets?
I want a 3/4 with a shield for cooler weather, I have a 1/2 shell for the summer.
Hmmm, what to do, what to do?
