Default Ear Pain

Hey guys - I've been riding for many years, most recently a Fatboy with the windshield off around town and on for longer rides and have never had a problem.

I recently bought a 2014 Street Glide Special and I'm having a lot of pain in my ears. I actually went to the doctor today and they gave me steroids to reduce the inner ear swelling.

I'm 6' 4". I bought the higher 7.5 inch windshield which got the wind off my face, but it didn't help my ears. The wind now hits me right in the forehead, which isn't nearly as bad as right in the face. It hasn't done anything for the ears though.

I guess I could try a taller windshield, but they only make them in clear if you go larger than the 7.5 and I don't like the look on my Mysterious Red Sunglo as it's a dark bike and the dark windshield looks good.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or can offer any solutions? I love the bike with this exception and really want to keep riding as much as possible.

Thanks for your help!

Earplugs have always worked for me when needed. Also, several windshield companies that we have discussed in dozens of threads here offer taller windshields in darker tints. If the wind is hitting you in the forehead, sounds like you do need something taller. Many to choose from.

I'm six foot and ride with an 8" LRS. I think you need a taller windshield and LRS makes them in dark tint with a slight recurve.

Works for me too but I use a 3/4 instead of a full.

I went to a hearing aid place who made molded earplugs for me. I ride in silence.

Ear plugs, but you'll ride faster.

Well, the question is:
Which is more important to you?
1. Getting rid of the ear pain,
or
2. The color of your windshield.

You might look around at aftermarket suppliers for a tinted windshield.
I'd suggest Clearview and Slipstreamer.
