My first HARLEY: how much do you value this ? should I say YES or NO ?
Hello guys,
Im Marco.
Im looking at custom harley for months, I never had a bike but my dad had some HD in europe.
I found an Harley I like a lot.
Its a:
1998 Sportster 883
15.000 miles
Screamin Eagle ?!?
Bike runs fine, owner says it never had a problem
But the bike is kind of rusty and engine black paint peels off a little (i think previous owner did a DIY job)
I love the look of the bike, much more than any factory Harley to be sincere
I love the sound
I just need to have an opinion from experts like you about how much you evaluate a bike like this
And how much would i have to add on top of that to have it cleaned/sanded/repainted etc etc
Thanks so much guys

It looks like the owner did all the work on it and finally gave up on the bike as a project, I would give it a pass unless you are mechanically inclined, a masochist and have a pile of money. My suggestion is to use the money you'll have to put into it and use it for a better candidate. That bike will be a money pit. By the time you are able to ride it you will never get even a fraction of your money out of it on a sale or trade.

That's not set up as a bike I would want to learn to ride on. I'd pass. It looks as though it's been ridden hard and put away wet!

Max 3K. The bike looks to be in OK condition other than the rattle can engine and muffler paint. Do you have a mechanic that can check out the bike before you buy it since you don't have any experience?
Is it small spots of surface rust or is the rust deeper (you touch it and small bits of metal start falling to the ground)?
As long as the engine/drive train is solid and the rust isn't too bad, I'd go for it. The only thing is that those clip-on handlebars will probably get old pretty quick (It may just be me) I like an upright riding position. Price out new handlebars and risers would be my advice. Even if you like them, you can use that to negotiate the price down.
The main thing would be getting it checked out by a qualified mechanic.
