Tragic accident this morning here. Driver of "cage" shouldn't have been on the road. The officer was one of our locals.

Sorry to hear that, I hope they throw the book at the driver with the suspended driver's license.

I'm trying to envision the accident in my head but it's difficult because the area that he crashed is fairly deserted. There couldn't have been many cars on the road at the time. If he was making a right turn, did he not look to the left for oncoming traffic? Or did he just assume it was okay to turn because it's such an unpopulated area. If he did "look both ways before crossing the road", he would have most definitely saw a car coming from the other direction getting ready to make a left. The guy who died is a cop, but is he a new motorcycle cop? How long has he been riding, because it seems like an unlikely crash.

My condolences to the family of the rider.

Looking at the scene it is hard to picture what happened, it appears the Blazer would have had the right of way. I wasn't there so I'm not pointing fingers.

"Driving under suspension" - every time someone gets caught doing that they should spend the rest of the suspension in jail. Shouldn't be any different than breaking parole or jumping bail.

A license can be suspended for not paying a parking ticket. It doesn't mean the person is a hardened criminal or shouldn't be driving because they're a stone cold drunk. We don't know, maybe he is. Without that info though we can't judge.

Years ago I had my license suspended for not paying a traffic camera ticket that I didn't even know I had. They sent me no warning letter, they just suspended my license. I got pulled over at a traffic light and the cop told me about it.

Now, had I got in an accident, and automatically blamed for it, I would have been furious.

Give me a break. Talk about knee-jerk overreactions. There are too many benign reasons for which a person's license can be suspended. Some of them are administrative, not criminal. It has nothing to do with parole violation or not adhering to bond provisions.

I'm trying to envision this as well. He's making a right turn and gets hit by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and making the left turn. That means that when the rider first crossed the white line to enter the intersection, the vehicle turning left was already in the middle of the intersection.

Tragic. The city lost a good public servant. Condolences to his friends and family.
