Default SS Braided cables

I've had Motion Pro SS cables on my bike for about 3 years now, but the clutch cable is really looking crappy now. There are dark brown areas on the cable on the clear plastic covering in several spots that look as if they've been burnt with a torch.

I don't know what causes it, but it could be something to do with the cable lube and sitting in the hot sun.

I think I'm just going to get some black heatshrink tubing and slip it over the top 18" of the cable. At least it would look better than it does now.

The throttle cables are fine, and the brake hose is fine, its just the clutch cable.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I just took a couple of pictures. The clutch cable looks like crap.

I have a clutch cable that looks just like that. It was on the bike when I got it about 5 years ago. Have no idea what caused it.

Did you use WD 40 to lube the cable? I've heard that it will cause that.

Motion Pro line is the cheapest out there for SS cable and 3 yrs is about it for the life of the clear covers before the yellowing & cracking set in, been using them for years on the shovels they all do it. You want a better cable but they do cost more look into Magnum stuff, much better quality.

I'd be calling the manufacturer, and ask their input, that sucks. I have Magnum Chromite II, for about 4 years now, look good as new

Maybe I shouldn't have lubed it. Does anyone know if Motion Pro cable require lubing?

They are supposed to have a teflon liner so no lubing. I do the clutch cable anyway on mine but I redo the clearcoat every couple years with new clear shrink tubing.

Thanks TwiZted

I might try to clean it up and put a new clear one on, or maybe just try put a black heatshrink over it. It'll still look better than it does.
