gear oil, in primary or transmission?
2014 Street Glide... this is my first oil change doing it on my own. I forget which hole gear oil can go into, in the primary for the transmission? I plan on buying red line.

Use gear oil of the proper weight in straight grade in the primary and transmission. Be careful here since Harley does not specify weight. Do not put too heavy(weight) in there. You will get a terrible clunk from the clutch winding in oil between the plates and and the inner needle bearings in the input shaft in the transmission are very small and need flushed. Small chips generated in a miss shift need to flush thru if they happen to get in there and settle to the bottom Both transmission and primary are non filtered, so you do not want high detergent motor oil designed to keep crud in suspension to be caught by a filter. The magnets on the plugs are primary on there to indicate a bearing failure. The primary needs gear oil since the large inner primary roller pin bearing that supports the drive going to the transmission and the large ball bearing that supports the clutch hub are huge. Obvious, the geared transmission needs gear oil.

Put regular transmission fluid in your primary.
Put whatever you have for motor oil in your engine.
