Default 40-Amp Maxi-Fuse

2006 Roadglide w 8500 miles. Serviced at dealership and well cared for.

I rode to my son's house, some 20 or so miles , and after a spell, got ready to leave for home. Dead bike!

Nothing works. Pulled off the cover and the Maxi-fuse was blown. Great, no spare!

A quick phone call and I have someone drive to the dealership and pick up one. Put it in, assembled the cover & bags and no go. Blown again.

So, I use my HOG roadside service. Wait 2 1/2 hrs for a guy in a flatbed. Thirty degree ramp and nothing special for bikes. Great!

Anyway we get the bike on and to the dealership just before closing and that's where she sits.

What's with the maxi-fuse? What does it protect and what might make it blow.

ZUMO is wired via the acc switch and has an inline fuse. Wireing harness for a trailer hitch was installed by the dealer. Everything has been working well.

Its the big fuse right off the battery. Sometimes fuses blow because, they get weak. Always carry a spare set plus the maxi.

Can't say what the problem is, but it must be something pretty bad to blow a 40-amp fuse, but at least the bike's under warranty and should be fixed as such.

If you're blowing the maxi-fuse, you've got a dead short somewhere.

The boys are right,to blow a 40 amp fuse you definetly have a short.A circuit breaker would not help in this case, except that you would not have to buy one everytime you had problems.

Like I do with all trouble shooting, the first thing I'd ask is what changed recently with the electrical. Maybe something got wet somewhere and this was blowing the fuse.
