hard starting
my 2010 road king classic is hard to start at times. kicks back like its out of time. third try it will start normal or could this be a weak battery? voltage test shows 12.79 battery all most 5 years old.

A static test might show 12 volts, but it's cranking power that really matters. Take the battery to an auto parts store and get it load tested. At 5 years old you're probably ready for a new one but before you do anything else get it tested properly.

Kick back could be caused my compensator. I had similar starting problem, tried new battery and stronger starter no luck. Recently installed a SE comp problem fixed.

Mine was doing the same thing about a month ago and it tested fine when I rode it to the shop. But cold starting it, it'd drag and act like the battery barely had enough juice to crank it. I finally replaced the 22 month old battery snd it's been like new since.
