Teach me how to stagger
Hey guys,
I just spent about 8 hours fighting with the wiring in my new apes. What a major pain in the ***. I got about 5 of the 10 on the right side through the bars and had the others half way through and the connection on the Namz extensions ripped out. Frustrated beyond belief, what a headache this job is. I am already using clear glide lubricant, not sure what else to do.
I'm being told I should stagger the wires? So how does this work? The wiring needs to be the same length all the way through. I don't know how to stagger them, nor do I know where to begin. Basically, where all the "extensions" are, it's getting bulky. Even if I stagger them, I wonder if it'll pull through easier.
I already have them all soldered and shrink wrapped but looks like I'll be removing that and extending/staggering.

Yes stagger them. If your wires are, for instance, 20" in length and you want to make them 30" then you shouldn't just go to the middle say at fifteen inches and make a mass cut across the entire loom. You'll have to cut two at eight inches, then the next two at 12", etc..... I find a four inch stagger works best.
Good luck,
Tom

Instead of taping all the ends together in a nice fat bundle you pick 1 wire to tie to the leader you have already run through the bars from the center. The you simply tape each wire 1/2" back from each other making a nice tapered bundle and don't over do it with the tape, use just enough to secure each wire in place . DO NOT CUT anything till you have them all through the bars.

Get some of these from a local vendor in the correct size for the wires you are extending:
Heat shrink solder connectors: Solder, heatshrink and sealant all in one and they make a nice slim joint. Then stagger the cut points in the wires so you only have one or two joints in the same place.

not everyone appreciates a laugh in here instead of being so serious all the time... but I enjoy a good one.

I find it easier to buy a roll of black or red 18 gauge and make long harness's all labelled, solder those together, "staggered" then soder the original harness back on to the other end, no messing with those Fu@$ing pins!!
