Default Case Cover/Trim Kits

Hey guys... new to the site and new to the world of Harley... I recently was put in charge of revitalizing a handful of sportsters ('03-'07s)... These bikes have been sitting for months and the salt water in the air here has taken it's toll on much of the chrome. We are several hours away from the nearest plating shop so I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience or opinion on the trim kits that they sell to cover the existing Rocker Boxes, Primary, Sprocket and Gearcase. I assume the best plan would just be to replace the actual cover but these bikes are in need of a lot of work and I'm exploring my options to possibly save some $. How do these parts look? How easy are they to install? Do they last?
Thanks

Pics of the bikes in question would be most helpful.

I think the only option would be to replace the covers, or re-furbish them. Have never seen trim kits that go over engine covers.

I've seen them, but have never known anyone to actually put them on a bike. I think the corrosion would migrate to the covers anyway and turn them rusty over time.
You could pull the covers and have them professionally polished...cheaper than chroming them.

Or have them powder coated.
