Default EVO performance/S&S heads question

My recently purchased '97 FXDWG has S&S heads and carburetor. It has a "torque arm". The guy I bought it from doesn't know the engine's history; the bike was shipped to him from a dealer.

This thing MOVES! It's much faster than my '92 FXRS was.

So here's my question: What are the gains from S&S heads and carb? (The bike also has Cobra Speedster pipes w/ a crossover sysytem). Just looking for a general idea of the percentage of HP/torque gained from adding the heads and carb.....no idea if the bike has a different cam or pistons.

Any feedback appreciated, thanks in advance for your help.

Headwork and I'll bet it's got a good cam too, carb alone isn't a big improvement in performance.

I agree with TwiZted. The heads and carb alone won't do much without a cam. My bet there is a cam in there too.

Where do you get to open that thing up on Block Island?

Corn Neck Rd in the deep off-season? I hit 60 as I shifted into second gear (from a dead stop), then backed right off 'cause things were happening too fast. It's a little slow off the line, but once it winds up a little.....look out!

My evo softail is just a 80 with a cam and rips, and the engine is way quieter then my tc.

I'm guessing it has different pistons too, if it goes a lot better.

Besides the cam and some other stuff, I shaved my heads .050", and my bagger will lift the front wheel in three gears.
It will tear up the drive belt too, so don't do that a lot.

The S&S heads are good heads either way... they have a bathtub style combustion chamber which is a big improvement over the Evo's "D" style combustion chamber.

I'm willing to bet the cam is an Andrews EV5 or similar.

The bike winds out more like a rice rocket than the Harley I was used to. My old bike had tons of low-end torque but wasn't very quick. The new bike is scary quick, especially once it revs a bit. Thanks for the replies!

All in the cam that is in it. If you want more power down on the bottom get to shopping; lots of good options out there.
