I think, for the most part, we do a pretty good job at helping steer new members/riders in the right direction. Outside the one or two immature a-holes that post ludicrous comments in every mentoring thread.

Every time I ride it seems that at least one person will approach with a question or comment. I know several people that are getting into riding again or for the first time. Every conversation on motorcycles seems to evolve into either safety, rider awareness, experiences, or proper maintenance. I was mentored from first steps as a child till today. I'm still mentored and still mentoring. I pass on those experiences freely. I will point out pitfalls and bad habits. Too bad that there is a lot of misinformation and twisted opinions in the motorcycle community. Too many people make the mistake of not accepting that the easiest change is their own skills. I can't control what others do or conditions I ride in all of the time. I can control how I respond to others actions and those conditions when riding. I was discussing a rider two days ago who went into a curve too hot and lost the bike with just minor injuries this time. The rider had expressed the idea that is was traction problems that caused the wreck. I informed the person that if he had enter with less speed it would have allowed for more corrections to traction. He might have had the skills to make the curve. The easy fix was to bleed speed correctly and enter the curve with the math in his favor. Just one example

People often covet what they see.... so unless you're always doing what you should do to properly 'mentor' them, it's a mute point. You gotta do what's in your power to protect yourself... at whatever level you feel reasonable and prudent. Nuff' said.

Two new sayings that mean nothing are "nuf said" and "just sayin". People put them at the end of their sentences because they think it's cool. Just like saying "not" was 10 years ago.

I can't wait to see what the next ridiculous meaningless expression is........NOT!!

I don't ride in groups much anymore. When I did, I'd keep an eye on the new guy and if he was doing something incorrectly, I'd pull him aside and tell him. Other than that, I mind my own business unless someone asks.

I'm just sayin' that's 'nuff said.
