2009 road glide front brakes
I am new here and want to pass on some information about the front brakes on my 09 road glide. When I was riding 2 weeks ago I came up on some traffic and pulled on the front brake
lever and it was rock solid. No brakes. I got on the rear brakes and started gearing it down and got it to a stop. Being only a mile from the house I slowly got it home. I have read several articles about this and decided that I was not going to take any chances with this problem. I took it to Harley of Greenville and they found that the ABS module had locked up. This happened all of a sudden with no warning what so ever. I always thought a brake system failure would revert back to normal brakes. Not the case here. Luckily I had purchased a 3 year warranty on the bike when I bought it. I think this is a safety issue that Harley needs to address. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a serious engineering fail. I've never heard of abs modules failing to "seize" or "lock-out." Thank God you didn't need to stop in a true emergency or the outcome might have been different...

Wow. Glad your okay. Is the bike by chance 100% stock? No changed bars, front end, rim? Just curious on maybe something happened when "it: was replaced.

100%
The bike is 100% stock. The guy at the Harley shop said he had never seen this happen. I told him to google it and he would see that it has happened to a lot of them. I am planning on filling a report to NHTSA in hopes that it will save someone's life. That is one heck of a scary feeling when you grab the front brakes and find you don't have any.

HOLY $hit. Now THAT'S scary. When they said "locked up" was it software or hardware that "locked up"?

ABS module
The hardware. Got a call today and they got the new ABS module and will install it Friday. Yea, the hardware. I guess the valves in the module locked up. I will find out more about it when I pick it up and will pass on the info. Isn't that some crap.

The brake system was service all most a year ago. I went Saturday to pick the bike up. They said every thing was done. They serviced the brake system and installed the new abs module. I had new brake pads in the luggage and paid the labor to have them installed while they had it. The total bill was about $800.00. I paid a $25.00 deductible and the labor for the pads. Total was $78.00 out of my pocket. The extended warranty paid the rest. I got the bike home and they had left the boxes that the new pads came in. I opened the boxes to see what the old pads looked like and, you guessed it. The new pads were still in the boxes. I was not a happy camper. I took the bike back to the dealer today and showed them and the paper work showing that they were replaced and the charge for the labor. The manager said he would take care of this. I went into the store and was looking around and the manager walked up and handed me a $50.00 gift card for having to come back. He assured me that it would not happen again. The brakes work great now but no one could tell me why the abs module would fail and leave you with no brakes. I also told the manager that I was interested in putting either Reinhart or Vance/Hines monster rounds exhaust on. He told me to purchase which ones I wanted and he would install them and tune the engine for free. Can't beat that. I know people make mistakes. I did not go up there raising hell about it. I just wanted it fixed. When it was all said n done. I think Harley Davidson of Greenville was very cooperative and did every thing they could to make me happy.
