Do you use your battery tender all year long?
I was told that using the battery tender all year even when riding frequently helps prolong battery life. The theory is that a battery has only so many charge and discharge cycles in it so by keeping your battery continuously topped off, it will last longer. Also, even though we ride more in the summer, batteries discharge faster in heat so tenders are also needed in the summer to help keep the battery topped off.
Is this info accurate? Do you guys use your tender all year long even when riding and would you say your battery has lasted longer because of year round tender use?

anything over a couple of weeks in the summer i use it, and all winter when im not riding... if the battery is going bad then the tender will kepp up with it, and when we go out the garage then i spot it to see if there is a problem

Battery Tender
My first battery in my Dyna lasted 6 years and the only reason I changed it was a fear of it on a long trip. If my bike is at home it is on a tender.

I use the battery tender all year long. When the bike is put up after riding, the tender gets connected.
I use the battery tender to make sure the battery is fully charged when I want to ride. I don't use it specifically to prolong the battery life. If that is a secondary benefit of its use; great. As far as I'm concerned, the battery lasts as long as it lasts and when it dies I get a new one.

No. My tenders eventually broke and since I ride both bikes at least once every week or so year 'round, I don't bother with them anymore.

Every single night. I have an aftermarket radio and speakers and truck light. I suspect those are still pulling charges even when the bike is off. So, once I get finished riding, I'll let the bike cool off and then, I'll plug in the charger. I've never spoken to anyone who damaged their battery by keeping it on a charger while not in use.
