I have heard stories of Pans being started with just a twist of the left grip, have not seen it but I believe its possible. Have a friend with one leg, He rides a kick only Shovel, Hand starts it and hooks his fake leg on the peg.

I rode a 67 kick only shovel for about 7 years. And twice in that 7 year period it started with just turning on the ing switch. everything must have been lined up so when the switch was turned on the spark fired the plug. Both times it was on a restart of an already warm motor.

used to win bets and beers hand starting my 49 Pan that way, too. Low compression (but well tuned) with a simple Linkert carb.

Used to do it with my old 64 pan FLH. They had dual point distributors and you could time them perfectly. I had a throttle off an ATV rigged up to the distributor so i could advance and retard manually.

I have a kick-only Yammy single I use for commuting. Not real hard to kick over, but I will say that it made me realize why boots with a steel shank became a mainstay among bikers. Hint: it ain't for safety (or fashion) like so many people think...
My suspicion was confirmed when Jax put on boots for his last ride on that knucklehead in the last episode of SOA.... LOL>

...to stay on topic (sorta), I've never hand started or even push started my Harley. I can do it with one thumb.
I do hafta put the kickstand down by hand, since I put these banana boards on, tho, unless I'm wearing really pointy-toed boots...

I was hesitating to say my experience but you verified it for me. My Shovel started "once" with just a turn of the key. Surprised the hell out of me.
