On a 2002 FLSTS-I Heritage Springer

What are the pro's or Con's of this

style front end? Also what kind of rear

suspension does this bike have?

Pros: cool, classic, and rare.

Cons: not as effective as the more modern front end suspension. No abilty to add or modify for ABS brakes.

It is a softail so naturally it will have the softail rear suspension.

I've had my first year FLSTS since it came out in 1997. It's a great bike that offers a great ride. I push mine pretty hard through the twisties and it does surprisingly well for a heavy cruiser. They're perfectly suitable as a cross country cruiser as well. As far as cruisers go, there are no Cons IMO.

The bushings wear out in the springer. It's gradual, so you don't notice how much better it handles until you put new ones in. It's a bit of a pain to change them.

A squeaky front end which needs a bit more attention than a regular Heritage at services.

Love my Springer.

Love my Springer.

yeppers it does squeak, parts rub on each other ..
a lot of attention is required , however it is old style , and doesn't offer near the control as later/better designs.

BUT , it is cool for the guys that sit at the café , and brag. or whatever

Springers look awesome and ride just fine. They are not just for sitting around in cafes and "bragging or whatever". What a stupid comment...

I bought my Springer new in 2005. I have almost 85k on her and haven't had one bit of trouble with the front end. It doesn't make any noises and it's given me great service and nothing has been replaced yet. I ride my bike in the twisties and have taken long rides with her and no issues whatsoever and I wouldn't trade my Springer for any other bike that HD makes but that's just me.
