Dallas - how to get around
I travel from southeast Texas to north of Dallas - (Denton/Krum) to see family. Anyone who has traveled this way knows 35E and 20 are not an option for motorcycles - or at least not for me. I have a great route, until I get to Athens to Kaufman. Tried Tyler but it is so congested now, it's crazy. Does anyone have a suggestion of a nice fairly safe route?

When you say Southeast, what city do you mean? Beaumont?
I-45 to Ennis. 287 from Ennis to I-20/820. 820 north around Ft. Worth to I-35W. I-35W to Krum/Denton. There are some back roads off 287 Business on the north side of Ft. Worth to get you out that way but it isn't easy to get there without I-35W
You can take 31 out of Athens over to I-45 then north to Ennis and cut off on 287. Much nicer ride than Dallas.

Yes, close to Bmt, to Corsicana, then 45 to 287. I think I did 287 Midlothian, then 20. Does 20 go by Tx Motorspeedway and come out in Denton? I'll plot what you said and give it a shot. Thanks

If you come north on 287 it intersects I-20 about a mile east of the Ft. Worth loop or 820 on the east side of town. You'll need to stay in the right hand lane (safest lane) as it merges with I-20 and follow it around to the right (North). Stay in one of the two right hand lanes as 287 will cut off to the east through downtown, don't go that way. Continue north on 820, you'll cross I-30 and then some time after that 820 will turn to the west and after about 10 miles or so you'll come up on I-35W. Head north and you'll be golden. I-35W passes Texas Motor Speedway.

When we went to Amarillo, this is the route we took. And Russ aka rwhisen was the one who suggested it.

I'd rather do the Hokey Pokey thandrive through Dallas. Those people are crazy aggressive and all the highway construction makes it worse.

I visited a friend in Seagoville south east of Dallas in May of 2013. He took me all over Dallas. You need a friend like mine.....

Dallas, where I live, is the ONLY place I've ridden in 53 years of Harleys, that drivers stopped at a red light will cut over into you, sitting still, to push you out of their way.
Last time was three weeks ago on eastbound NW Hwy at the Toll Road coming back from Gas Monkey. Was about two seconds from laying the motor down and pulling the ******** out of his pretty little Mercedes.
