Default What's This?

Trying to identify what this cover and hose are? I noticed that the hose going into the cover is cracked and broken. If I pull the cover off will I have to replace the gasket because it's and oil cavity? Is this a breather/vent hose for crank case. Is it a Harley part only?

Your help is appreciated

Looking at the Pic, not sure what you are referring to. If you are talking about the chrome cover, that's the transmission top. If you remove it you should replace the gasket, I can't see a hose in the pick. Both my EVO dressers have vent hoses coming off the transmission top cover and venting behind the inner primary. Hope this helps.

Yes that's the cover I'm talking about, I'll just go to Harley Tuesday and pick up new hose and gasket. The hose has a tapered sealed fit so I just cant just put any hose in there. I'm sure it will be a Harley p/n. Thanks

Yes, that is transmission vent hose.
Not that unusual for them to get a crack in the bend.

And yes, you will need to get it from HD. The hose end that is inside the cover has a square end on it that slides into a slot to keep the hose secure.
Part #: 62372-09 - Vent Hose, Transmission - Retail $4.49

Does it really matter if there is a crack in the vent hose since there is nothing on the other end?

Yes, water can get into your transmission.

Its not as much about having the crack, as it is the location of it.

The other end is open, but it is pointing down so water isn't going to flow "up" the hose.

If you have a crack in the hose in one of the bends on top of the transmission, you run the risk of getting water into your transmission when you wash the bike.
