Default Throttle cable loose

Where the cable routes up through some steel housing and then it connects into a box type thing on the handle bars, is that supposed to be loose at all right at that point?

Engine<------Cable -----------{-----steel housing-----}[box]

It's loose between -----} <this and this> [box]

Believe it's suppose to have a 1/8" margin between cable end & clutch lever housing.
If you plan on working on your own bike you need to buy a manual.

Yeah the THROTTLE cable is loose there so it can swivel. What matters is the slop you have when you twist the grip. You should be able to move the grip just a bit before it begins to pull the cable and raise the revs.

Yes there is a little slack, just enough so it doesn't bind.

Geez man, get a grip, that's why I'm asking I don't know this stuff. I thought I explained it pretty well with my advanced cable schematic drawing.

What motor do you have?, is what their asking along with better descriptive details.
We know your a layman but it helps when you properly describe things for experienced people to help you out.
This thingy a majiggy and so on so forth doesn't quite get it.

Sent you a link for clutch adjustment & throttle cable straight from the manual.
Again, do yourself a big favor & buy a HD service manual.

I certainly agree the OP's description is lacking in detail. But, I would hope he is able to tell what each cable is for. Again.... I hope?

When he talks about a box type thing on the handlebars, I assume he is talking about the switch housing.

The title of the thread is "Throttle cable loose". You're on the wrong side of the handlebars.

Your avatar looks like you ride an Iron 883. The throttle cables go into a couple pipes that go into the control housing. Those pipes must be able to swivel so the throttle doesn't open when you turn the bars, which could be a disaster.
