Default ice climbing while riding in alaska

went to alaska and found about ice climbing, didn't have the time on that trip

well going back in july and am thinking about it again

i am looking for opinions on ice climbing. i have never done it, nor i have i done rock climbing.

there are two places i am looking at - the root glacier near mccarthy and the Matanuska Glacier along the glenn hwy. both locations have guides and according to their sites say that they will take beginners and taylor the outing to the people.

comments on what i should be looking for, how in shape one must be, how enjoyable, etc.

you get the idea

thanks in advance

Been to the Matanuska; it was colder'n hell & THAT was in July!

If you go, take plenty of industrial strength mosquito repellant. 100% deet.
