Harley's bigger engine...
It has been cold and rainy here, so I thought I would take a look at my 2015 Harley brochure and thought of a question.
It seems that about every six years give or take Harley bumps up its engine size. In 1999 Harley came out with the 88 inch, 1997 it came out with the 96 inch and then wasn't it around 2012 they went to the 103 inch motor?
I see the CVO's have been using the 110 inch for several years now, so I am predicting that around 2018 all the Softails, Dyna's, and Touring bikes will have the 110 inch engine in them.
So my question is.....what will be in the CVO's?
115....117?
Do you think they may just bump up the Hp instead of the Cubic Inches or do you think some smog regulations will cause the V-rod engine to be installed, replacing our air cooled V-Twin?

From what I've seen in the past they haven't gotten all the bugs out of the 110 yet. They do make a 120 cu in motor that is for "race use only", so maybe in a few years they will offer that as a stock motor. I honestly can't understand why they haven't as of yet, being all the other bike makes have bigger V-twin motors that they can get to pass emission standards. Funny years ago Harley had the biggest stock motor available at 1200 cc's. Now the Sportster has it. Harley could come out with a 2000cc motor, but if it only puts out 65 hp and 85 ft pds of torque, what the point?.,,,

I just read upon that motor. $5700 for less than 120 hp and 120 ft pds of torque. And you'll need a new air cleaner and better pipes to get that. I can't help believe you couldn't get that from a big bore kit with cams, and a bit of head work for alot less $$$.,,,

Regular Harleys ran the 88 ci from 1999 till 07, then they bumped the engine up to 96 ci, then nor too long ago harley bumped up their engines to 103 ci, which is where they are now. CVO started in 1999 with the 88 ci engines, in 2002 they bumped up the engine to 95 ci, in 2003 they bumped the engine to 103 ci, in 2007 the they bumped up the engine to 110 ci. Ok you can see the pattern that they have got going on here. back in 2000 the SE big bore kit was 95 ci and here it is 2015 the SE kits are 95 ci, 103 ci, 110 ci, 113 ci, 120 ci. My guess is that the CVO bikes will go to 113 ci and the regular Harleys will go to 110 ci in due time.

My question is aside bragging rights and getting ever hotter ball cooker motors as they get bigger why does the new bikes need an ever bigger engine ? Speed limits are set in this country and nobody is pulling a mobile home with one.
Honestly aside throttle blippers at bike nights who actually uses a big motor to half it's potential as it is ?

Just so person A can tell person B that they have a bigger motor than they do. It's the equivalent of jacked up trucks and "bragging" rights.

I think you make a typo error,, 2007 was when the 96'er's came out..
and I agree the next bump will be the 110 (standard engine)
Then if the Cvo's goes with the 120'' then (?) yrs later it will be the standard engine..
After that they may outlaw Bikes all together,, because of loud pipes. Bawwaaahawaaa...
