brake job question
I'm getting ready to do a brake job on my Ultra, all three calipers, and the local dealership wants $51.00 for each pad set, OUCH! I'm not trying to be a cheap *** but that is a bit high. Where do you guys recommend getting a good quality pad at a reasonable price?

Yeah, I looked on ebay and they are considerably cheaper but I do not know about the quality of what they are offering. I'll pay the dealer price for the oem pad if it is that much better.

Save the money and do the whole job yourself.
Since you and the dealer are unlikely to turn the rotors, replacing the pads are relatively easy, except the calipers are held on by an unusual bolt head (as I recall). I bought the pads on line and followed a couple YouTube videos. You take the calipers off the bike and undo the retaining springs. You then take the cover off the reservoir which allows you to separate the caliper grip from rotor. A BIG CAUTION HERE- brake fluid will each your paint QsUICKLY. Don't spill anything. Once the caliper is opened wide, you pull out the old pads and replace by doing it all backwards. No, pulling the wheels is NOT required.

If you have the dealer do it, they will use HD pads which are not bad. They are dusty which makes cleaning whitewalls (if you have them) a bit more difficult. As noted, $51 is not that bad for a set of brake pads.
I prefer the Lyndall Z+ pads which produce less dust than the HD pads. If you decide to replace the pads yourself, call HogPro. They are a sponsor of the forum and usually have the best price on Lyndall pads ($45 or so). Their customer service is excellent.

You may be able to find EBC V-Pads on eBay for around $40, But that's as cheap as you'll find. Great pads.
