'04 Wide Glide has a broken frame...now what?
A friend pointed this out today. I hadn't seen it:
This is on the right-hand side just behind the battery box. The break is rusty and looks like it has been there a good long while. The piece seems to either support the seat or even the shock tower. I'll have to do some disassembly to check it more closely.
I weigh 155lbs. This is my daily driver every day, all the time. The bike has never been dropped or abused as long as I have owned it (one year) so all I can think is it is a cold weld.
Sac Harley says they don't weld, I might need a whole new frame. I have an extended warranty but I wonder how long I'll be riding my SG everyday? Whatever, it's a major bummer because I love this scoot.
Anyone experienced something similar?

Thank guys. I don't have to do anything as I bought the extended warranty. They have to cover it. Costs me a hundred bucks. But they will have to reprint the VIN on a frame at the factory and it is an '04 so I wonder where they will come up with an 11-year-old new frame?
Main thing is I love my SG but the WG is a special putt to me. Like having a horse with a broken leg or something...

You think they may have to "put her down"
that's an expensive fix changing the frame, they may buy you out (?)

It looks like it's just the battery box mounting point....Weld it, paint it and forget about it, it's not structural.

Any competent welder should be able to fix that. Lot of guys on this forum have welded on their bikes, shouldn't be a problem. I'd sure pull that fender, seat, and probably a few other parts, maybe even the shock, before getting a welder in there. Might take some work to get the metal bits back together to weld them, too. I pull the gas tank before welding, too; shouldn't be a problem if the welder and bike are grounded properly, but I get paranoid with gasoline around.
I have a bracket on my Glide I need to weld back before I put it all back together. Probably lay a better bead on the other side, too, not the best looking weld on that one, either. As you can see in the pic, the weld was only on one side; since I have everything off, I'll be able to lay a bead on both sides, should be a lot stronger than Harley made it.

Take it to a motorcycle frame shop and have them true it up and weld it. It shouldn't be much of a problem.
