first ride of the season
actually the first ride in about 5 months
usually over winter i get a couple of rides in when there is no salt or ice or other obligations.
around february i start wondering why i have this 'thing' in the garage which is holding up thousands of dollars and is not being used. then i take the first ride and i understand why.
over winter is was behind the snow blower and other things. and its been busy, so just haven't gotten the time to move it out and check the tires, etc. well last nite i forced the issue and got it moved.
got up this morning and finished the process and hit the road around 5:15am
it was good, and i do mean good.
however, the main route into work (1st ave to I55 into chicago) was under construction and i got rerouted to Harlem which is in awful shape which cracks and pot holes and way too much traffic. gonna have to find an alternate route as it will be under construction until like aug
regardless, great to be on the bike again
now to get the other bike out and going so i have a choice
darn winters, darn salt, darn ice, darn snowblower, darn other obligations

The first rides of the season are always the best for me. For one you are just happy to be riding but more so I like the rides of early spring because of the temperture, the scenery, and other things.
The spring is my favorite time to ride.

Got lucky, rode last year into the first couple weeks of November, and had my first ride of this year about a month ago. Usually don't get to go that late or this early.

For me, the season ended for all practical purposes on August 30th, when the bike was hit from behind in traffic. I didn't get it sorted out and back home until Christmas. This will be the longest layoff from riding I've had in 35 years. Still looks like a couple of weeks before I'll ride again, given the cold, sand and road salt.
