going to apply at local harley dealer
anyone ever work for harley?
i know it will be far less money than what i make now but i need a change of pace. im burned out.
i just bought a 15 2 nights ago and everyone up there is real cool. ive been up there about every day for the past 3 weeks.
when i was leaving i got to talking with one of the parts guy and he said i should apply as they are looking for someone.
i think it would be refreshing.
im sure **** can get crazy but it cant be that bad. they are closed 1 day a week and their operating hours are only 8 hours. even if i did the whole 8 the whole 6 days, it would feel like part time.
ive been doing at least 50 hours a week for 4 years and it is not uncommon to do 60 or even 70 hours a week. 18 hour days are not uncommon and a 30-40 day stretch in a row with no day off happens too.
i had to reglaze my tub cause all the metal that falls out of my hair.
i lost my left ring finger and am in pain all the time.
once ive been home for a few hours i will feel something running down my face only to find out that i have metal leaking out of my eyes.
hearing tests every year as well as cardio pulminary tests to make sure im not losing too much lung function.
the money is awesome and ive learned a lot of skills but im fried.
i figured working a parts counter at a harley dealer would be a welcome change. at least for a while.
being able to go to work in every day clothes.
as it is now i have to wear metatarsal boots, ear plugs, safety glasses and gloves. depending on where i am i have to wear a full face respirator and sometimes a melt jacket that really feels awesome when it is already 130 degrees.
anyway, blah blah...
i tend to ramble but im just curious if anyone has ever worked for a harley delaer

mikelikesbikes, i could see that happening if they came from some cushy place. ride to and from. even at 6 days open thats at least 1 day a week to ride and only being open for 8 hours during the day leaves plenty of hours to ride. dont really understand how they dont have time.
machiavelli, i work in a foundry. i used to love it but now im just fried. im in pain. my hand bothers me all the time.
im grateful for the foundry though. i learned a lot on their dime that i otherwise would have had to pay for.
if i could do 8's i would stay forever.
i just need a break.
mfc, cant quit. responsibilities and all.
just need a little less action

i have been at 3 harley dealers in the last 2 days and they all have different hours.
the one i am talking about is closed on monday and tues-sat 10-6 and sun 10-4.
seems ok hours to me
i see your location. wish i was back there.
i grew up in st pete.
i was in florida a little over a month ago. hit up clearwater and mad beach.
the roads down there are prime for riding. not like this pothole ridden ohio ****

If you can swing it financially then do it. About 2 years ago I left manufacturing where, like you, was putting in tons of hours even working from home a lot due to wearing several 'hats' in a small company. Wife noticed I was eating tums like candy and I noticed my BP staying up. Now I'm one fit guy who shouldnt have those issues. Left for a university job making 1/2 the salary at 1/4 the stress. Life hasnt been better. And ya know what... I really havent missed the money. I really consider this 'semi retirement'
