New Member from Oklahoma needing help deciding on a new bike
I apologize in advance, as I know somewhere there are numerous posts and replies addressing my question. Problem is I can’t find them, so here goes my question.
I’m 52 years old, 6’-5”, 290 pounds. I rode bikes in my youth; my last was my Dad’s seldom used 1200 Electra Glide, but that was 30 years ago. I have been looking and researching as to which bike might be better to “Relearn” to ride. I plan on taking a MSF safety course as soon as I can, and slowly redevelop my skills.
I have narrowed my “Want-List” down to the Heritage Softail Classic, and the Ultra Classic.
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Two vastly different bikes. If you have long legs, you might like the Ultra better.
Arguably, the Touring frame bikes handle better and can carry more stuff than you need, but the Softail is sweet around town and good on the road too.
All depends on what you see yourself doing while riding.

If you can, ride them both. Some dealers will let you test ride if you appear to be a serious buyer. Or check out where the Harley Demo Days will be held near you, and test ride a few bikes. But you'll need to have your Motorcycle endorsement - take that MSF class first.
What may be comfortable for me, may be horrible for you. Only you are qualified to decide what is best for you.

You're pretty tall, I don't see a Softtail as a bike someone as tall as yourself would fit w/o some major modifications. I know a 6'2' and a 6'3" rider who log a bunch of miles on Ultras though.
One thing about the Ultra is it can be a bit of a top heavy beast until you get used to it, especially if you haven't ridden for a while. But you can't beat the ride you get from the Ultra.
