Default I bought a demo seat...

I've been looking for a particular seat for my bike and one came up on eBay for a good price. The only catch was that the seat is an unused (or maybe barley used...looks new though) dealer demo seat. New, the seat would be about $500 to my door. This seat was just a touch under $300. As most of you know, the demo seats have the word DEMO stamped all over the top of the seat. My plan is to re-dye the seat cover with some aerosol vinyl dye. I bought a can of this stuff:
Amazon.com: VHT SP942 Vinyl Dye Black Satin Can - 11 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: VHT SP942 Vinyl Dye Black Satin Can - 11 oz.: Automotive

If this works, then I saved a bundle. If it doesn't work, then I probably has some options of getting the seat recovered. I'll try to keep this thread updated as to my progress.

A demo seat on EBay sounds like a stolen seat from a Dealership. (Unless the EBay seller was the Dealer?)

I thought maybe something like that too, but the guy has a ton of new and used motorcycle parts he's selling, and has >5,000 transactions, so I'm assuming he just bought it from either a dealership that was going out of business or something like that. They make you leave a credit card when you test a seat at some dealers. Maybe if you keep it they charge your credit card and the seat is yours (like RedBox). Not sure, but the guy seems established enough on eBay that I think he came by it through honorable means.

I took the word HONDA off the back of the seat on an old shadow I had using MEK.

I know that seat. I farted in it. A lot. Quite frankly, I'm surprised the "Demo" didn't melt off.
Good luck covering that.

I had a Yamaha Zuma pit bike I bought new one time, all black except the seat lettering that said "yamaha". I used some brake cleaner to take it off. Super easy, may try that before you spray it. A little vinyl conditioner afterwards and it looked brand new again.

If you have to have it reupholstered you would have been further ahead buying the seat new. Best of luck.

I would suggest you use a vinyl primer before spraying it with the dye.
