Likely because once a helmet has an impact, even falling from your bars to the ground, it should be disposed off.

Ah, another "where do you put your helmet thread".
I would reckon seeing skid lids on the ground is a subliminal message on what the helmet owners think of helmet laws.

If a helmet is supposedly damaged from a fall on its own, then it wasn't gonna help you much, LOL. Thats sales and risk management B.S

Scratches is one advantage of laying a helmet on the ground.
Properly placed under a Knuckle/Pan/Shovel head, it could be a catch container for oil drops.

I'd never put mine on the ground. I hang it from my right grip.
And that's..."where I put my helmet"!
