Default Lowering a Heritage Classic

I have a 2009 FLSTC and being almost 70 I need to lower the seat. There are all kinds of kits on Ebay for this but I need to know how much it can be lowered without tire interference.

With Progressive 422s you can lower it as much as 2" then you can add a Signature Series Seat that lowers you down another inch.

The 422s are going to set you back between $3-500 depending on the model you select.
I have the RAP model which allows me to adjust them more easily.

The Signature Series Seat will set you back around $550 new but I've send them used on e-bay for as little as $250 (that's what I paid for mine on e-bay).

So if you go with 422 with a new Signature Series Seat you can lower yourself around 3 inches for a price between $850-$1050.

Or as Ankaos mentions there's shotgun shocks but I don't know if you can lower it more than 2" and still get a pleasureable ride.
Also Shotgun Shocks alone will set you back around $1250.

What about the kits that run in the $50 up range on Ebay? They supposedly lower the back up to 2 inches which should be enough. Are they any good?
I also got a "lowered" Saddlemen seat (it's for sale) and it did that part okay but my rear end moved to my belly and my boney butt hurts on that seat.
The high dollar kits can't even be considered.

What does your age have to do with the seat needing to be lower?

Google "softail lowering bolts". Probably what you're looking for. You can drop the rear an inch and a half to two inches with no changes to spring rate or damping. No tire clearance problems but you may drag the floorboards on occasion. Even the expensive ones are under $100.

Send your stock seat to Mean City Cycles; they can cut it down and narrow it. Those cheap kits work to a degree, just limit the travel on your shocks; ride will be a bit harsher though...

Softails have rubber bumpers between the frame and upper crossmember of the frame to limit the swingarm travel, so the tire won't hit the fender. You are just losing wheel travel when you lower the bike.
