set up fee for an 05 sporster? ?????
#1
My cousin is going to buy his wife a 2005 Sportster. The motorcycle cost 3980 dollars. The dealership wants $500 for a setup fee in addition to the cost up the bike. Are they running a game or is this normal?
Thanks,
Brian

I think it's for the oil change and a wash and wax. Hell, I'll do it for $500. $4500 plus tax for a '05? Sounds high to me.

Set up fee should be for a brand new bike. They have to uncrate it, install and check a number of items. No way I'd pay a set up fee for a used bike. Ask them what they do for the $500. If they won't waive it, tell them to take a flying leap at the moon.

Total rip off, tell him to walk if they won't waive that fee.
Used Sporty's are a dime a dozen, he can find one easily at another dealer.
My dealer doesn't even charge the set up fee on new bikes.
This is a big scam to suck more money out of him.

If you don't agree with the price, don't give them your money.
Go buy from a private seller and hope there is nothing leaking, loose or anything else that puts your life in danger while taking it home for the first time.

Almost all dealers do that here in GA. Just another way to extra money out of you. I know for a fact they can waive it tho. Also, in GA there is a law that they cant add fees onto any advertised price. Might check to see if your state has that also.
