Where are some of you getting that he used his front brakes?

He does not say that anywhere that I read so I attribute the mishap to not having his full strength back from the surgery he had not too long ago.

I'm pretty sure that he knows better than to grab the front brake under those circumstances.

Bjewell, just give yourself some time to recuperate from your surgery and you will be fine.

Best answer so far! If you did that, give yourself a chance to heal and get strong again.

When making full lock U-turns, keep your eyes up and your head turned back where you will be going. Clutch in gray area and drag the rear brake to maintain balance.
CHP motor school says, "look at the ground, go down".

this seems common on the touring bikes and i'm guessing it has something to do with the rake, bringing the front wheel back and the rear facing trees can bring this on very easy. don't see this happening no where near as much on bikes with the trees forward of the frame neck.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your kind help. I wasn't using the brake, just walking the bike first backwards and then forwards to 180 the bike to turn it around with the engine running. The obvious solution-- repave the driveway. Thanks! :- ) Cannot do that but I can do some home fixes where the pavement is really uneven.

I'll keep the bike, spend the $300 + to get all the scratches taken care of and put some new tires on it eventually. No trike ever by the way... -L-

Is the 180 necessary?

Yeah. Garage is a one car (house built in 1917). I have to turn it around to back into the garage. The driveway is 80 feet long. I've not had problems in the past - -except when the tank is full I guess. The WG is a snap but the SG is a handful. I accept my mortality but I hate HATE the road rash on the bottom of the bags.

More importantly, how's your reconstructed knee?? Stressing it so so after surgery is a very bad idea. I hope you're OK.
