Default Rain Gear

Looking for his and her's rain gear. Would like to hear about your favorite and why. Also interested to hear about features that you like and why. Specific brand names and styles would be appreciated. Also brands/styles that just did not work for whatever reason would be helpful. Thanks.

Our most recent road trip took us across IND/Ohio during their big rains a couple of weeks ago. I wore a HD rain pants and jacket with a light jacket under the top. The wife wore some Frogg Toggs. Our boots had been sprayed with the waterproof spray for leather from rust-o-leum. We stayed pretty comfortable despite the 40 mph crosswinds and heavy rain bands.

+1 on the HD rain gear. Tried Frogg Toggs road toad that was okay for awhile, but started leaking after a few months. Also, would melt if you got your leg within the same zip code as the pipes. The Frog Toggs would probably be okay if you only plan on using them once in a blue moon and pack up very small. The HD stuff is expensive, but stays dry even in strong storms/downpours. The HD suits also have better zippers, velcro etc. so that getting it on and off is easier and quicker.

Save your ca$h...just ride naked!

JK, HD has good stuff...get some when it's on sale (e.g. off-season).

Default Rain Gear

Get the best you can afford. Harley makes pretty good rain gear and they also offer several different lines that vary in price from about $100.00 per set to about $300.-400 per set.
If the material it is constructed with breathes, you will be a lot more comfortable during those hot summer showers. I can see how buying 2 sets of rain gear could get expensive but remember you will use it for years to come.
Gore-Tex used to be the only breathing fabric that was waterproof, but now there are a bunch of companies out there that make waterproof and breathable material.
A company called Cycle Gear sells Tourmaster rain gear...Although I haven't ever tried it, it seems to get good reviews from some of the riders here.

If you do a lot of touring then spend the money and get the Harley gear.
Yes it's more expensive than it should be but it's probably if not the best is equal to it.

For my wife and I we don't tour much but do ride few thousand of miles a year so rain is always ineviteable.
We have Fulmer Stormtrak suits that we got for around $70 each.
I just can see spending $200 on something that we just don't use but a couple of times a year.

We've been through two huge downpours with them and have stayed dry.
BTW- we wear frogg toggs gaiters because at $10 a pair they are disposable if needed.

I have been through a cheap set of HD rain gear which sucked, mostly not because it failed to keep me dry but had no ventilation. Now with the HD Hi Viz quite happy, especially along with the gators. Next time I will probably get the FXRG line as I can't guess it can get any better.

You get what you pay for and I can't afford to buy cheap stuff.

Or you might want to check out Milwaukee Performance, They make a good suit and the legs unzip all the way up for easy on and offing. Stirrups on both legs that are removable, a waterproof and burn proof inside lower leg strip so pipes don't melt them plus they even have matching gators if your boots are not waterproof. The only color they come in is chartreuse yellow and black, so color choice is limited. I can attest to how good they are. They even come in a bag for easy storage, $110.00 Or you can just go with some $40.00 frog toggs from wally world, but I wouldn't go there myself if I wanted to stay dry. You can look up Classic Leathers in Morristown, Tn. owners name is Dennis, he'll fix you up.

Froggys togs here. Never been wet in 8 years same pair. I get real classy and tuck walmart bags over my boots and in the pant legs on my way to work.
