I had heard some talk of major road work in either Spreafish or Lead, anyone know for sure that's in the area or has just been in the area? I've looked on the states site but it wasn't much help. Just looking for a heads up before we're already in it. Thanks and ride safe.

 

I was in the area around the end of June. In Deadwood they are doing major roadwork. It was a complete mess...one lane/pot holes that shook the car.
I saw in Lead they were doing work downtown w/ a detour thru some very tight streets.

I found on the town website that they are doing paving next week so maybe they are targeting a completion of that section of Hwy 85 before the big traffic starts. Thats in Deadwood.

South Dakota runs a pretty good website w/ construction updates also.

My understanding is that they are having two lanes exiting the freeway into Sturgis.

All the entrances and exits in and out of Chuck's Deluxe in Gillette, WY. are closed. If they aren't, they should be.

 

I was there last week, 85 out of Deadwood to 385 to Custard and all is watered down rock and dirt. It is rough. Downtown main street in Lead is under construction with a crazy detour.

 

I was camped in Spearfish and did not see any major road construction in that area.
