Default Metzler tire problems

Been running Metzler for more than 10 years with no problems. Till a year ago. Had a tire with about 8k miles on it (average about 12k treadlife) lose a section of tread. Didn't go flat, just wiggled a little in the corners coming home from work. Figured I had ran over something that didn't see and caused it. Put on a new tire and had about 6k miles on it. Came home tonight and went to check the air pressure and found several chunks of tread missing again. Tire isn't rubbing or anything like that to cause it. Anybody else having issues? I'll post pictures of both tires tomorrow. Planning on contacting Metzler tomorrow.

Weird - I never heard of that on a Metzeler. I had 888s on my Heritage and I have them on my T100 without an issue.. Just guessing but can running hard in Texas heat have an impact?

I tried Metzler for the first time last year. I haven't had any problems so far but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it now. Thanks for the heads up.

I run 888s with over 7k miles and I barely have any wear on them. Wow, I haven't seen tires fail like that!

Funny ... I was just at the shop today and they had several Metzlers that looked exactly the same way. Two of them were off of BMW's

I have had issues in the past with the Metzler 880 MH90 on the front of my '05 FXST. I replaced 2 of them prematurely becuase of excessive cupping (which I don't entirely believe was metzlers fault), and the last one becuase of tread separation. No where near that degree, but the beginnings of separation that may have gotten there.

Conversely, I never had a problem with the 160/70x17 I ran on the rear, rode and wore great and had amazing grip.

I hear that metzler is releasing the 888 in 130/60-19 that will fit my new Roadglide and I will likely give it a try when that time comes. I despise the factory Dunlop. Hopefully metzler will have their issues sorted out.

Default Tire

Had the same thing happen to me. I only had about 4000 miles on mine. Tire before that, the plys separated with only about 200 miles on them. Took about 9 months for metzler to finally pay about about 70% of what I paid. These were both 880's. I like they way the ride better than the Dunlop 402's but can't afford to be changing constantly.
