Looks like I'm buying a 2015 special and would like to just for now to do slip on v&h mulffer... Is tuning needed?? I'm hoping not money's tight and a later date I plan to do a full pipe to match the slip ons and a good tune

 

No tune or flash needed with slip ons only. Once you add full pipes and a/c then get xied or tuner.

I thought the same with my 2015 Softail. Put my slip on's on and ended up with decent amount of deceleration pop.

Bout and put on the V&H FP3 with 75 miles on my brand new Breakout. Deceleration pop 100% gone and the bike runs sooo much better than stock.

Now I don't have to worry about running EPA lean anymore.

You should be fine though since your cats are not in the mufflers; like the softail are.
