DIY Oil Change costs.

DIY Oil Change costs.
Hi.
For those that change their oil themselves. What has been the average cost for doing an oil change?
So far for all 3 holes it will cost me an average 97.00 dollars for
4 qts of oil ($53.00),
3 qts of primary plus oil($27.00), (Includes Primary and Transmission)
1 premium oil filter (12.00)
and a gasket kit ($5.00)
Synthetic oil change $65.00
4 qts of oil ($53.00)
1 premium oil filter (12.00)
Synthetic Oil Change plus Primary $88.00
4 qts of oil ($53.00),
2 qts of primary plus oil($18.00), (Just Primary)
1 premium oil filter (12.00)
and a gasket kit ($5.00)
Keep in mind this is an average for those that use Synthetic with tax included. So your costs will vary. An average qt of Syn goes for about 12 dollars while regular goes for about 8 a quart. Now you guys can stop complaining on how much the stealer rapes you when you take it in for service.

You're comparing retail prices. Dealer cost on those items is WAY less.
I think most people change their own oil so they know it's done right, not necessarily to save money.
I don't do much of anything to my own bike EXCEPT change the fluids. I get some satisfaction out of "wrenching" my own bike and become a little more familiar with it each time. I never think, "Wow, I just saved a bunch of money!"

Some people actually see it both ways to save money and know that it is done correctly. Not many of us realise the breakdown on what it truly cost to DIY. Some just buy the stuff and just do it.

depends on the synthetic oil you like to use. i have a preference for redline 20w-60. that runs about $17.00 qt. for the primary, i like shell rotella t. advance auto, $15.00 for a gallon. then a decent gear oil, mobile 1, or.... about $17.00
i average over 10k per year. change the engine every 5k, the primary every 5k and the tranny every 10k, ends up at about $150 for the year in oil ($75 per oil change).
and unlike others, i do do it myself for the cost savings. plus making sure that it's done right.

I just bought a five quart jug of Mobil One 15/50 yesterday at Wally World for $26.00. Using about 4 qts of that costs me about $21.00. I stock up on HD filters at dealers' open houses when they sell for way less than $12.00. Blacks usually around $8.00 (regular price is $10.95), with chrome around $10.00. The only "gasket" I've ever replaced are the o-rings on the drain plugs, and haven't had a leak yet from the clutch cover or the cover over the chain tensioner. I run Redline ShockProof in the tranny, which is quite a little more than Formula Plus, costing me $19.95 a quart, and my tranny takes 24 oz of that quart.
$21.00 for engine
8.95 for primary
15.00 for tranny
8.00 for filter
3.00 for O-rings
Total $55.95 for all three holes. I pay the tax on materials whether I do it or a dealer does it. But now in Mn, we also pay tax on "service," or in other words, labor costs from the dealer.
