What a joke . After trying out the custom bike builder software and looking at the cost . It clear states cost of dealer installed add on's . So if the dealer does it do you get any credit for all the take off parts.
There should be no reason why the manufacturer can't do it and show you what your take off savings are . This is what Custom Vehicle Operations should be doing.

Why should there be take off savings? You're adding to the bike, not taking away from. I don't get that mentality. Base MSRP gets you a base bike. It's not a 1 for 1 exchange.
Additionally, unless you're looking at it for the Street Bob or 1200 Custom, dealer add ons are EXACTLY what you're getting. It even says that on the main page of the HD1 link.

It really depends on whats you're adding to the bike. When I did my bike through the HD1 program I only added stuff that was factory installed. I did paint and the black and chrome engine. I think it added a total off $1100 to the rice of my bike. I doubt you could do the engine alone by buying piece from the dealer for that and as an option it was only $350. It's a huge savings.
As far as all the other bolt on junk through the HD1 program. I went out and found what I wanted and what I felt looked best to me not to Harley. I also feel I have better quality stuff.

the other thing about it is that having the dealer add your options at time of purchase, they are all covered under the factory 2 year warranty.
course, you have to weight whether or not the cost of dealer labor is worth it to have warranty coverage on the part. I vote no, but then I don't like the idea of paying the dealer $100 per hour to bolt on some chrome farkle that takes 15 minutes to install......

If you're paying cash in full, buying a bike with dealer installed add-ons makes some sense.
Financing them makes little sense.
Also, I think the OP was referring to getting zero dollars for all the take-off parts dealers sell as replacements for bent bikes. They belong to the buyer, not the dealer.
