Default Tire question

I have a 14 wide glide with 4700 miles on in as of today. 2 days ago on a ride my buddy noticed my front tire was low. We stopped at a gas station and checked it. It had 30psi in it. The side of the tire said to ruin 42psi in it. We put 40 in it and rode the rest of the day. The next morning I got up and checked it and it had 35psi in it. Called my dealership on Sunday (yesterday) and they had 2 guys broke down and only one tech working so they didn't have time to mess with me. Called another dealership got me right in. They said they could not find a leak but by Harleys standard the tire was wore out. I had them put a new tire and tube on $195 out the door i went and rode my 230 mile day trip today. My question is how is a front tire wore out at 4300 miles? I haven't even replaced my back tire yet? Is there anyway the front end can be out of alignment like a car? I just find it hard to belive it was already wore out

Could they have been telling you that only so that you bought a new tire from them? I usually get about 20k on a front tire, if not more.

Was it actually wore out in your opinion or did you just take a stealerships word for it?

Default Tire question

The side of the tire shows the maximum air pressure the tire can take. But the actual PSI you need is probably a lot lower. Around 32-38 PSI.

That info should be in your manual.

Also. A lot of times they will say it's worn out if there's dry cracking from the sun.

Could not agree more. At least as important, and I have stressed this many times is having an (one quality) tire pressure gauge you can count on. The stick type are worthless IMO. I have one made by Joes Racing that is dead on accurate.
