Default Luggage rack question

I have a 2008 flhx with qd mounts. I do not have a rear backrest. Ordered a qd luggage rack and it is to narrow to fit the mount. Is there an adapter that can be used or do I need a different setup?

Do you have the 2 pt. or the 4 pt. mount? Are you absolutely sure that you have the mounts set up correctly to accept the rack?

Sounds like you got either the wrong mount or wrong rack for your year. Or perhaps got the incorrect rack for you model. I believe they changed the width in 2009 (or maybe 2010?). If they hadn't, I could use the rack from my 2006 on my 2011.

As mgla said, it would be helpful if you gave us the model # of your rack (and dock too if possible).

Kuryaken has one that mounts to the chrome "rail" behind your seat. Most of them that I've seen mount to the passenger backrest.

I think the problem is that I do not have the back rest. The rack is aftermarket

Amazon.com : Harley HD Touring Screamin Eagle Street Glide FLHXSE2 Detachable Two Up Luggage Rack(1997-2008) : Everything Else Amazon.com : Harley HD Touring Screamin Eagle Street Glide FLHXSE2 Detachable Two Up Luggage Rack(1997-2008) : Everything Else

No sure what model mounts I have, they were already on the bike. I do have the grab bar like the photo from another black.

Default Luggage rack question

That rack is the one that fits on the detachable tour pack mounts, not the detachable backrest mounts. You'll need the 2 L shaped brackets that fit on the back. I can't look up the part number now, but go on the Harley site and plug in your make and model and in the "luggage" section, look up the detachable "two up" your pack mount.

It looks like you could use that rack if you had a solo seat.

You could go with this one, but I think you'd need additional mounting hardware.

Unless you're going to get a passenger backrest, if I was you, I'd go with the one I posted previously that mounts to the chrome bar behind the seat.

You don't need a solo seat for that rack. That rack mounts like a tour pack. You need this:
